Not a Pro Mechanic, but This Makes Me Feel Like One

I’ve been working on vehicles since I was 16 and do all my own maintenance and repairs—not just for myself, but for family and friends as well. While I’m not a professional mechanic, I’ve used a variety of basic OBD2 code readers over the years. They helped somewhat, but always felt too limited. I finally decided to invest in a more advanced diagnostic tool and after researching several options, I chose the VDIAGTOOL VD80BT—and I’m glad I did.

This scan tool is on another level. I bought it mainly to monitor transmission fluid temperatures during service on newer vehicles, but I’ve already used it to scan and reset a wide range of systems: engine, transmission, ABS, TPMS, HVAC, TCS, ECM, and BCM. I’ve tested it on multiple makes including Toyota, Honda, Jeep, Subaru, Scion, and Hyundai, and it picked up hidden codes my older tools completely missed.

One of my favorite features is the bi-directional control—it lets me test components like cooling fans and fuel pumps right from the tool. I even disabled an annoying seatbelt chime (the dashboard light still shows, but the beeping is gone). This tool lets you perform functions that used to require a trip to the dealership.

The wireless connection is stable and makes it easy to work around the vehicle without staying in the driver’s seat. Plus, it includes 3 years of free updates, and from what I’ve seen, future update costs are much lower than other brands. Customer support has also been excellent—quick responses and follow-ups to make sure everything was working properly.

Overall, the VD80BT is a powerful, professional-level OBD2 scanner that’s still easy enough for DIY users like me. If you’re serious about maintaining your own vehicles, this scan tool is an excellent value. I highly recommend it.

Packed full of features. Easy to Use.

This is the Second Scanner i Order from VDiagTool. I am not a master tech but with the support plus brief research im able to use this easily. When you First get it make sure you update the Software and Download any updates it may take about 15-20 minutes to fully update it at first but after that its great. The new Topology map helps you indentify what madules go to what part of the car computer. Ive been able to use the immobilizer feature to make new Car FOB’s. The Wireless VCI is great for checking special funtions and activating different things around the car. I was having issues with my EVAP and was able to activate vent valves to make sure it wasnt stuck open. Overall a great Tool for DIY’ers or Professionals. Highly recommend it.

Topology and wireless!!

I had the VD70 that was wired and was very impressed with the special functions and actuation testing on the tool. This new VD80bt is a the next step up that I was looking for. I’m impressed with the tablet and how quick and responsive it is. Download speeds and web browsing while troubleshooting are a huge improvement. The screen is very crisp and responsive and large RAM helps make this tool seem like an everyday carry tablet. The wireless OBD2 port connection was something I was skeptical about at first but after using it I’ve been very impressed. It appears it has limitations when it comes to control module programming but the fact that the tool gives you a warning that recommends using the supplied USB-C cable to hardwire the tool to the OBD-2 when making critical changes or programming relieved my concern regarding the wireless connection. When appropriate I’ll use the cable to ensure a bullet proof connection and for checking codes quickly or things like checking voltage drop in harnesses I can utilize the wireless connection and have the tablet in eye sight while jiggling wires or unplugging connectors. So far I haven’t had an issue at all when it comes to the connection of the wireless OBD-2 transmitter. The topology and new and improved special functions of this scanner make me very excited to have as my go to scanner. I do wish they’d have more special features for FORD like tire size reset and key fob learning but with the updates that continue to come out I’m sure it’s a matter of time. These tools are awesome and for the price point you can’t beat it, even compared to HFT!
